Colleagues,

Below is the latest guidance on AI tools and how they may be used at JCCC.

Overview:

JCCC supports the responsible and ethical use of generative artificial intelligence (AI), which includes technologies that can create text, images, or multimedia.

JCCC supports the use of the following AI tools, which have been vetted and will be supported by the institution:

  • Microsoft Copilot
  • Zoom AI Companion
  • NotebookLM
  • Google Gemini

Faculty and Staff:

Generative AI tools must be vetted to meet the College’s requirements with regard to appropriate protections of student and staff data, privacy, compliance, and legal requirements.

AI tools may be added to the approved list by submitting them to IS for a thorough review of the tool by the appropriate College offices.

To ensure the safety and integrity of JCCC data and systems, all College policies regarding appropriate use of technology should continue to be observed. Do not enter personally identifiable information, confidential or restricted data (such as information protected by FERPA or other applicable laws) into any AI tool or service.

Students:

While appropriate uses of AI will vary by field and circumstance, work generated using generative AI products is not considered original and must be cited appropriately as with all borrowed ideas, images, or wording.

Students are responsible for creating original and accurate work. If found to have used generative AI in an inappropriate fashion as adjudicated by a faculty member (examples might include failing to attribute the work appropriately or a blatant attempt to have generative AI complete assignments on their behalf, which inhibits the process of learning), they will be subject to both the penalties laid out in the syllabus of the course where the offense occurred, and the penalties for Academic Dishonesty as laid out in the Student Code of Conduct Policy.

General Policies Relevant to AI Use at JCCC:

  • Student Code of Conduct Policy 319.01
  • Student Disciplinary Action Policy 319.02
  • Student Record Privacy (FERPA) Policy 319.06
  • Electronic Devices Policy 424.07
  • Use of Technology and Communication Systems Policy 510.00
  • Data Classification and Security Policy 530.00

Thank you for your continued dedication to our community.

Best regards,
